Anodizing is a type of oxidation coating (Conversion Coating) technology. According to the definition of ASTM, Conversion coatings are coatings for metals where the part‘s surface is subjected to a chemical or electro-chemical process by the coating material which converts it into a decorative or protective substance. Generally, aluminum alloys are very susceptible to oxidation, although the oxide layer has a certain passivation effect but with long-term exposure will result in oxide layer peeling off and losing its protective effect. Therefore, the purpose of the anodizing is to use its oxidation characteristics and control the oxidation level by electrochemical methods. In result, it helps to prevent further oxidation of the aluminum material while also increasing the mechanical properties of the surface. Another function is to apply different reaction to produce various colors to enhance the appearance. This technology has been certified by our customers Safran group, GE Aviation and NADCAP.
